THE BEAUTIFUL DEATH #1

(W/A) Mathieu Bablet (CA) Brandon Graham

THE APOCALYPSE HAS BEEN AND GONE. THE AGE OF HUMANITY IS AT AN END. HORRIFYING INSECTILE ALIENS FROM THE DEPTHS OF INFINITE SPACE ARE NOW MASTERS OF THE EARTH! WHAT DOES RESISTANCE MEAN, WHEN THERE'S NOTHING LEFT TO FIGHT FOR? THAT'S WHAT WAYNE, JEREMIAH, AND SOHAM, THE ONLY SURVIVORS OF THE DEVASTATING INVASION, STRUGGLE WITH - SEEKING A GLIMPSE OF A FUTURE THAT JUSTIFIES THEIR FUTILE PRESENCE ON A RUINED WORLD. AS THEY PICK THROUGH THE REMAINS OF HUMAN CIVILIZATION, KEEPING OUT OF REACH OF THE BUGS, NONE OF THEM SUSPECT THAT THEY ARE PART OF A MUCH LARGER PLAN, ONE THAT INVOLVES ANOTHER, UNKNOWN SURVIVOR...

JAN'S ATOMIC HEART AND OTHER STORIES TP

(W/A) Simon Roy

From the mind of Simon Roy, co-writer and artist of the Eisner Award-nominated series PROPHET, comes a collection of tales that span time, space, and species.

Waaaaaay back in 2009 before Simon blew up with his amazing work on Prophet, he was just another cartoonist from Vancouver making bad ass sci-fi comics that not many people would ever see. I remember the day when we got in the original 'Jan's Atomic Heart' and thinking, "Holy sh*t, this guy is gonna be big!" Simon's art was definitely the first thing that stood out, especially his ability to use light and shadow, even without color, but what really hit me was the story. The poignant way in which he delved into the characters, especailly the feeling of what it is like to be a human in a robot body was quite moving and when set against the backdrop of a bleak, russian-esque sc-fi world, well...yeah..happy place. Highly recommended for all fans of Brandon Graham's work or just great euro style sci-fi in general!

RECOMMENDED BY CASEY!!

Ok, and I also have to do a small shout out for Brandon's new book, "Empowered Special #6: Internal Medicine' which he is working on with the highly talented Adam Warren! For fans of sexy girl manga anime awesomeness (and puns) it's a match made in heaven!!

(W/A) Ron Wimberly

All Die-Hard, all the time!!

prophet.jpg

Apparently the solicitation for this issue was never updated, but don't fear, casey the comic monkey is here to preach the gospel of RON WIMBERLY!!! That's right, the man who brought the you modern masterpiece "Prince of Cats" turns his attention to the infinite reaches of the stars for a very special issue of Prophet focusing on the ever vigilant super-soldier, Die-Hard!! Wimberly is THE most talented creator working in comics today (next to Brandon, (sorry)) and clearly Graham realizes this as he has stepped aside to give Ron full creative control over this issue!! Don't be a chump and pick up what is sure to be the best comic of the first half of 2014!!!

WALRUS GN

(W/A) Brandon Graham

Beloved for his graffiti-inflected science fiction comics, Brandon Graham has developed a punning, humorous and sexy universe of machines, logos, women, and bumbling men, all cast in an alternate Sci-Fi universe. Walrus, Graham's first art book, collects drawings and sketchbook comics spanning 2009-2012, and allows readers a glimpse into his creative process and obsessions. Here we glimpse everything from the puttering pace of domestic life to high energy drawing riffs to homages to cult comic book characters.

Yes, yes, we are hype whores for Brandon Graham...but can you really blame us?

LAST CALL TP VOL 02

(W/A) Vasilis Lolos

The Ghost Train is the unearthly engine that travels between dimensions and through the void of space and time. When two normal teenagers, Alec and Sam, mysteriously end up on the train, they're thrown into a world unlike any they've ever seen and in the middle of a killing spree more chilling than anything they could have imagined! After being separated in Volume 1, the pair finally find one another, but it's not the reunion either one expects. Alec has aged ten years while Sam has only been on his own for ten hours! There's no time for the two to catch up though! There's still the issue of who is murdering the passengers and how it's connected to the boy's appearance on the train!

After 6!!! friggin years, Vasilis Lolos, one of my favorite comic creators of the past few years finally returns with his creator owned fusion of horror, mystery and comedy as two punk kids steal away from their homes one night hoping to find an adventure on par with the mind blowing metal mixtape blasting from the tape deck, but you know that old saying and things go from bad to weird to WTF in a manner of seconds!! Capturing a truly unique and indy style, Lolos infuses his books with a musical energy that few others are capable of matching, but for fans of Brandon Graham, Corey Lewis, Becky Cloonan and the serious METAL that is Chuck BB's 'Black Metal', this is a ride that is not to be missed!!! RECOMMENDED BY CASEY!!

Casey and Morgan attempt to dig their way out from under the monster pile of comics this week that threatened the very lives of our brave clerks!! We've got new Thrizzle from Michael Kupperman, Super-Hero awesomeness from Paul Grist, demons in hell from the ever amazing Mike Mignola, Dock Ock continuing his quest to bed Mary Jane, creator owned crime-noir from Diggle and Jock, sexy space adventuresses, cities built on the backs of whales and ponies for all you Bronies! Eclipsing all of this, though only slightly, is the sheer amount of METAL brought to you by Becky Cloonan, Andy Belanger and Karl Kerschl! In fact, it was so metal that Casey forgot to even mention the new team of Latour and Klein taking the reins on Winter Soldier which promises to be a superb spy thriller taking you to the darkest depths of the Marvel Universe!!

ONE TRICK RIP OFF HC

(W/A) Paul Pope

Young lovers Tubby and Vim want to escape - escape the mistakes they've made, the lives they've lived, and the dirty city weighing them down. Their plan is simple -all they have to do is rip-off Tubby's pals, the One Tricks - the toughest street gang in LA.
If they pull it off, they're set for life. If not, their lives won't matter much anyway.
What was going to be a smooth, straight-forward heist becomes a fast-paced battle to the death.
From Eisner Award-winning writer/artist PAUL POPE (Batman: Year 100, THB, Heavy Liquid, 100%) and presented for the first time in color by JAMIE GRANT (All-Star Superman). ONE TRICK RIP-OFF/DEEP-CUTS is 288 pages of raw power, of which over 150 pages are comprised of new, rare, and never before seen stories created during POPE's time traveling the world in the '90s.
Included in the "Deep Cuts" section is a bounty of unpublished and rare work POPE did in the '90s, including the legendary "Supertrouble" manga, created for Kodansha in Japan, appearing here in print for the first time.
It's a tour de force of pure, kinetic storytelling that will keep your eyes peeled until the very last page.

Alright boys and girls, bust out your wallets and thank the comic book gods that you can even buy something this awesome, something this rare all in one nicely crafted package! Paul Pope, known recently for his work on Batman Year 100, cut his teeth in the cutthroat industry of Japanese publishing as the only American to ever produce a weekly series for Kodansha with his totally rad, cutie-pie strip "Supertrouble" which is presented here for the first time, along with his inky rendition of L.A.'s slimy underbelly, "One trick Rip Off." Grat for fans of Brandon Graham, James Stokoe, Moebius, Hugo Pratt and anyone looking for supercharged, down and dirty comix!! RECOMMENDED BY CASEY!

PERVERTS OF THE UNKNOWN GN

(W/A) Brandon Graham

We called him first! Years ago, we could just see how Brandon Graham would be so successful as he is with his King City today and when he was a young quiet hoodied punk, published two wonky cool adult graphic novels by him, full of his signature originality, graffiti inspired art and fun deviance! This long out of print one is the first graphic novel of his ever, an off-the-wall, tongue-in-cheek SF spoof sure to get your rockets in full blast! Old perv Walt is called upon a mission with hot porn chick Stix to create the orgasm to end all climaxes to save... well, some important thing or other. Hey, it's not the end, it's the means!

PILLOWFIGHT GN

(W/A) Brandon Graham

And here's the other fun adult graphic novel, long out of print, by the now world-famous Graham (King City)! Poor Jem. She got caught by her parents doing the naughty. Big time naughty. So now she's banned to a big gloomy school for naughties, but, boy, what goes down there would make her parents' heads spin! She's finding it hard to resist, especially when her room-mate, Deforest K-Y, known as Bones, is a beautiful steamy teen blonde...

Finally, two of the most elusive Brandon Graham comics are available once more--and it's porn!! Long before getting fat paychecks from Liefeld, Graham turned out some fun and engaging erotic comics that do more than just stimulate your private parts. Much like the Manara archives Dark Horse has been putting out this year, Brandon creates sexy, playful characters that are more than 2 dimensional cutouts and continues to work those sultry undertones into his current book, Multiple Warheads. Take a walk on the wild side in the dark, dirty corners of Brandon's mind! RECOMMENDED BY CASEY!

MULTIPLE WARHEADS: FROM ALPHABET TO INFINITY #1

(W/A) Brandon Graham

Sexica and her Werewolf boyfriend Nikoli travel across a sci-fi, fantasy Russia smoking singing cigarettes.   Meanwhile the organ hunter, Nura is sent out with a severed head and instructions to find its body.

After years and years of waiting for FULL COLOR Brandon Graham, the first issue of his Russian sci-fi epic is here!! Werewolves, caffeine cigarettes, state grown squid produce inspectors; these are just a few things that are sure to make this the best comic of 2012. While this may seem overwhelming, the backdrop is merely that, with Brandon really focusing on the interpersonal relationships of his characters, allowing the reader to identify with even the most unusual occurrences. I will personally shame ALL who do not buy this comic, so avoid public humiliation and buy the damn comic! RECOMMENDED BY CASEY!!
