SLEDGEHAMMER 44 #2

(W) Mike Mignola (A) Jason Latour

Outgunned and outnumbered by an army of Nazis, a group of GIs must band together and unleash the Hyperborean power of the mysterious man in the iron suit in order to make it home safely.

While I love Hellboy, BPRD and the Mignola-verse in general, I will be the first to admit that Mignola has fallen into a routine; a template for both art and story that becomes too formulaic for even the most die hard fan. Nazis, world war II, occult super science...been there done that. How to spice things up then? ROBOTS!! Robots punching those Nazi's to stop their weird occult experiments during the bloody days of WWII!!! C'mon, what more do you want?!! It's Atomic Robo done by Jason Latour by way of Will Eisner. Image the hard faced, exhausted and frightened soldiers of Eisner's war comics thrown into the dark alternate history of magic, science and PUNCHING!!! Nazi's in the face that is.

BATMAN: GOTHAM BY GASLIGHT TP (NEW ED)

(W) Brian Augustyn  (A) Mike Mignola

A new edition of the classic starring the Victorian-era!
Includes GOTHAM BY GASLIGHT and MASTER OF THE FUTURE, tales that pit The Dark Knight against Jack the Ripper and a death dealer from the skies over Gotham City!

To hell with the lynching that is bound to be coming my way, I'm going to say it... I wish Mignola's art still looked like this. I appreciate the spiffy tentacles and the ambiance that he creates with his current art style. His influence is inestimable, and deservedly so, but his art used to MOVE, it used to be actual SEQUENTIAL ART, and it was just as attractive as the stuff he does now. (It might have more to do with Russell's inks on this book than the majority of us would like to admit, but...) That all being said this is probably my favorite of all the Elseworlds that I've read. I love this book. recommended by erin.

Anywhere there are people to help, money to be made and savory grub to chow down on, King will be there with his list and his Blue Suede Colts...

ROBOT 13 TP VOL 01

(W) Thomas Hall  (A) Daniel Bradford

Robot 13 tells the odyssey of the hero who awoke from the ocean floor that day as it looks for answers to who he really is...

Casey and Morgan attempt to dig their way out from under the monster pile of comics this week that threatened the very lives of our brave clerks!! We've got new Thrizzle from Michael Kupperman, Super-Hero awesomeness from Paul Grist, demons in hell from the ever amazing Mike Mignola, Dock Ock continuing his quest to bed Mary Jane, creator owned crime-noir from Diggle and Jock, sexy space adventuresses, cities built on the backs of whales and ponies for all you Bronies! Eclipsing all of this, though only slightly, is the sheer amount of METAL brought to you by Becky Cloonan, Andy Belanger and Karl Kerschl! In fact, it was so metal that Casey forgot to even mention the new team of Latour and Klein taking the reins on Winter Soldier which promises to be a superb spy thriller taking you to the darkest depths of the Marvel Universe!!
