EERIE PRESENTS: EL CID HC

(W) Budd Lewis (A) Gonzalo Mayo, Bernie Wrightson

Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar-also known to historians as El Cid-was an eleventh century Spanish military commander who led both Christians and Moors into battle. In the pages of Eerie magazine, however, writer Budd Lewis and artist Gonzalo Mayo transform El Cid into a larger-than-life fantasy warrior, battling dragons, trolls, and sirens for his life-and demons for his soul! This deluxe hardcover collects every El Cid adventure that ran in Warren Publishing's Eerie magazine in the mid-1970s, featuring the elaborately detailed artwork of Mayo, plus Eerie's original historical background feature.

CURSED PIRATE GIRL HC

(W/A) Jeremy Bastian

Adventures on and under the high seas lead a cursed pirate girl to encounter mythic creatures, gnarled and crusty pirates, and ghostly apparitions as she tries to find her lost father, one of the dreaded Pirate Captains of the mythical Omerta Seas. A whimsical swashbuckling tale of wonderland journeys and unimaginable dangers, starting in Port Elisabeth, Jamaica in the year 1728, and quickly heading across-and beneath-the waves. The first three issues are collected with an all-new epilogue.

Break out your magnifying glasses because one of the most sought after, damn near impossible to find comics of last year is finally collected as it was meant to be seen in a handsome hardcover book! Seriously, the art in this book is so intricately detailed that it is a wonder Bastian finished it before going blind! Capturing the pure essence of what most fantasy books are missing these days, Bastian has created an intricate world of wonder where every ship, every treasure trove, every secret map is a gateway to the endless caverns of a child's imagination. DON'T GO WHERE I CAN'T FOLLOW

(W/A) Anders Nilsen

In this collection of letters, drawings, and photos, Anders Nilsen chronicles a six-year relationship and the illness that brought it to an end. Don't Go Where I Can't Follow is an eloquent appreciation of the time the author shared with his fiancée, Cheryl Weaver. The story is told using artifacts of the couple's life together, including early love notes, simple and poetic postcards, tales of their travels in written and comics form, journal entries, and drawings done in the hospital in her final days. Don't Go Where I Can't Follow is a deeply personal romance, and a universal reminder of our mortality and the significance of the relationships we build.

There were too many good books this week so I had to pick two! recommended by erin.
