UNCANNY X-FORCE #9

(W) Sam Humphries (A) Dalibor Talajic, Adrian Alphona

 • The Fantomex Love Pentagram explodes!
•  With the truth about their sordid past fully revealed, can Fantomex, Psylocke, and Cluster look each other in the eye?
•  Every psychic ninja needs a vicious animal with no impulse control and a short temper to back her up...right?
•  Puck! Man, does that guy love jerky. Especially buffalo and bison jerky, dipped in Canadian whiskey.
•  Plus: a terrifying surprise villain from the X-past is definitely playing chess, not checkers, across Los Angeles
.

MAY130695.jpg

Iinitially, I was completely disinterested in this new incarnation of X-Force, despite the bad-ass line up. I'll admit, it was the creative team that put me off as the only thing I knew about Humphries was 'Fanboys VS Zombies' which, well, y'know. Regardless, I finally sat down and read the first arc and let me be the first to say I was WRONG! This book is friggin' rad! Psylocke! Spiral! Fantomex x 3!!! All slicing and dicing and dancing and dealing drugs and having strange three ways with clones of themselves--this book just doesn't let up!! It's dumb, fun and filled beautiful women fighting each other. What more do you want?

COLLIDER #1

(W) Simon Oliver (A) Robbi Rodriguez

It started small: temporary gravity failures, time reversal loops, entropy reversals. With much fanfare a new government agency was formed with a mandate "to prevent and protect." Its official title: The Federal Bureau of Physics. Humans, if nothing else, adapt to the changing parameters of their existence. What was extraordinary soon became ordinary, a part of people's daily lives. They move on and do what people have always done: survive. But even that new status quo is now under threat. Things are getting worse, and it falls to Special Agent Adam Hardy and his FBP team to figure out what's going on, before it's too late...

GAMMA

(W/A) Ulises Farinas (W) Erick Freitas

Dusty Keztchemal is a pathetic coward. He failed the entire planet, and now, the only way he can make a living is by getting punched in the face for money. But when a beautiful stranger wanders into his saloon looking for help, Dusty thinks he can conjure up the man he once was-the greatest monster trainer in the world!

gamma.jpg

I know nothing about this book. In fact, I only became aware of Ulises Farinas' work last week when the mind blowing Catalyst Comix dropped and at the top of the "OH SH*T" meter was this man's story about glam rock gangsters!! That's right, we're talking some Bowie shit here, people, and from the looks of this cover, we've only seen the tip of the psychedelic monster mound.

COMICS SHOULD SMELL GOOD!! EP. #39!!

And a horrible Wednesday morning to all you haters out there in comicland! Welcome to this week's Hate-O-Thon 2099, where the most hate filled comic monkeys this side of the San Diego zoo, Morgan and Casey, do what they do best--and no this ain't no Wolverine joke. We hate on so many comics this week it's amazing that anyone who comes within a 10 feet radius of us doesn't just keel over from the sheer amount of hate that we radiate. So grab your gold encrusted goblet, your purple robe, big ass hat and shiny diamond studded cane and get your ass down to the store and get some damn comics!!!

Hate hate hate hate hate hate hate!!!

DEATH OF HAGGARD WEST

(W/A) Paul Pope

This one-shot comic reprises scenes from the beginning of Battling Boy by Paul Pope. It presents the death of Haggard West, a vigilante-style superhero who protected the monster-ridden world of Arcolpolis before Battling Boy arrived to rid the planet of monster once and for all. The Death of Haggard West is a 32-page one-shot limited edition pamphlet comic with exclusive material (illustration and original cover) from Battling Boy author-illustrator Paul Pope.

haggard.jpg

You've heard about it, seen pieces of it on the internet, had friends who bought original art from it, but now, finally, you can read Paul Pope's newest masterpiece, BATTLING BOY!! Ok, well, maybe this is only the first chapter, but it'll give you a taste at just how fun and energetic Pope's new book turned out! I was fortunate enough to read the book in its entirety and honestly I was a little skeptical at first. Pope's been working on this for so damn long that I'm expecting every panel to look like the Sistine Chapel, but what he delivers is a quick, dirty and nasty style that evokes his earlier, inkier work, with a mad cap energy that reminds me of Corey Lewis' turbo-charged comix. Pope has delivered an American Manga complete with coming of age demigod dilemmas that will punch the FUN back into funnybooks!! (oh yeah, and magic t-shirts)
