NEXUS OMNIBUS TP #1

(W) Mike Baron (A) Steve Rude

First the headaches, then the nightmares of mass murderers who must die . . . by his hand, the hand that wields the energy of a living sun, the hand of Nexus. Possessing limitless power, Nexus is the greatest avenger in history, but his power and purpose come from an alien race with their own agenda. Is Nexus hero or pawn? Deliverer or destroyer? God or devil? Contains Nexus Volume 1 #1-3, Nexus volume 2 #1-11.

One of the greatest comics to emerge from the creator owned boom of the 80's, Nexus blends Sci-Fi space odyssey, social commentary and hard core violence, all tempered within the structure of an old school Super-Hero comic. Much like Dredd, Nexus is judge, jury and executioner who is driven by terrible headaches to obey the will of the mysterious Merk and destroy would-be dictators across the galaxy. Featuring jaw dropping art by Steve Rude who manages to imbue every panel with a brilliant mixture of classic illustration and silver age Super-Hero books, culminating in a graceful dance that most artists can only ever hope to achieve. So there is a little confusion with the artist on this issue; one site says Dexter Soy, the other, Emma Rios. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the latter. Rios is truly an amazing artist who is making this book look like a million bucks. RECOMMENDED BY SAM THE VIDEO MONKEY!

CONTROPUSSY HC

PRISON PIT GN #4

(W/A) Johhny Ryan

Johnny (Angry Youth Comix) Ryan's hugely popular sci-fi-prison-planet-gore-fest-a-thon continues on its bloody trail of mayhem as our hero plots his escape using any means necessary. With its first two installments already in second printings, Prison Pit is building a solid fan base and stands as an utterly unique comic book that has to be seen to be believed.

Prepare to pray at the altar of ultra uber violence as Johnny Ryan returns with yet another comic filled with defecation, decapitation, despair and other D words of destruction!! Imagine Fist of the North star viewed through the lens of professional wrestling all from the perspective of a middle schooler with severe emotional problems. In an industry of carefully crafted crap, this stupid as shit book of pure fun is truly a breath of fresh air. RECOMMENDED BY CASEY!

ZANADU RECOMMENDATIONS FOR 11/14/12

ALL NEW X-MEN #1

(W) Brian Michael Bendis (A) Stuart Immonen

It's a blast from the past as the original five students of Professor X - Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Iceman, Angel and Beast - are plucked from the past and brought to the present. But what they find, the state that their future selves are in and the state of Xavier's dream, is far from the future they dreamed of. And how will the X-Men of the present deal with their past coming crashing forward?

Professor Xavier's first class of mutants is ripped from the idealized optimistic past and thrust into our present. How are these young, fresh, bright-eyed kids going to fit into their own dark, dystopian future? It's like "Days of Future Past" as seen from the other side of the timeline. I'm not much of a Marvel reader, but this is the one that has piqued my interest. I look forward to many uncanny moments in this series: Cyclops discovering that he has become Public Enemy #1; Brutish, but human Beast coming face-to-face with Furry, Blue Beast; Frosty the Snowman meeting a much colder Iceman. This series might actually bring me back into the X-Men fold. RECOMMENDED BY HOWARD!
