COMIC BOOK ROUND TABLE UPDATE

Our first ever comic round table will take place on Wednesday, January 11th from 6:30-8:00 PM at the downtown store. All are invited to stop by and converse with the local geek community. All topics related to comic books are welcome, but we are trying to keep this as positive as possible, not just a bitch session where everybody jumps on Rob Liefeld (just kidding, Rob......and everyone who likes him).

Seriously though, we are trying to recreate that feeling before the internet when you met someone else who read comics and instantly there was a connection. Being such a solitary hobby, it was amazing to be able to converse with someone else who knew the same inside jokes as you, lived in the same universes as you and understood why you'd spend money on funny books.

On the other hand, don't be shy if you are new to comics, don't read mainstream stuff, don't know the first appearance of whoever or crap like that. Be proactive in your love for comics and let your voice be heard! Also, we need a name for this thing, cause i don't really like round table. Whoever shows up with a good name gets a bona fide No-Prize or something like that.

Hope to see you all there!!

ZANADU RECOMMENDATIONS FOR 1/4/12

FATALE #1

(W) Ed Brubaker  (A) Sean Phillips

GUNS! SEX! SECRET CULTS! AND MONSTERS!
Nothing the BEST-SELLING and AWARD-WINNING creators of SLEEPER, CRIMINAL and INCOGNITO have done so far will prepare you for the explosive debut of FATALE!
A reporter in 2012 stumbles on a secret that leads him down the darkest path imaginable... to a seductive woman who's been on the run since 1935, a mobster who may be an immortal demon monster, and the stories of all the doomed men who've been caught in their decades-long struggle.
FATALE blends noir and horror to tell a riveting epic unlike anything you've seen before.

I don't know if I can write anything here that the first four words of the preview doesn't cover, but almost anything these guys create is gold. The true masters of modern Noir, Brubaker and Phillips bring us yet another series that aims to redefine how we view the crime genre. Lovecraftian horror never looked this good! RECOMMENDED BY PATRICK!

GOON #37

(W/A) Eric Powell

When several workers die in a girdle-factory fire due to poor safety conditions and an out-of-control taco cart, the union is in an uproar. But when the fat cats bring in a supernatural union buster, there's only one man for the workers to turn to: The Goon.

Alright people, it is time to preach the gospel of the Goon! I was shocked and appalled last month to find out that there were even stores across the country who didn't carry it at all! This has to stop here and now!! What other book will you find giant Spanish speaking lizards? Mob boss octopus men that run the docks? The freaking queen of burlesque? And of course, Peaches Valentine. If you don't know the madness that is the Goon, do yourself a favor and pick this issue up or Franky will give you the ol' knife to the eye!! RECOMMENDED BY CASEY!

COMIC BOOK ROUND TABLE!

We are tentatively planning to have our first after hours comic discussion/geek out sometime in January. It will probably be on a Wednesday, around 6:30 to 8:00 pm. All are welcome to stop by and discuss anything that is related to the comics field and hear what your fellow nerds are into this week. So chime in and let us know if anyone is interested. Help us bring our local comic community of geeks together!! The goal here is to provide a forum for actual FACE to FACE conversation, which in this day and age seems to be a dying aspect of comic culture.

CALLING ALL COMIX CREATORS!!

Here at Zanadu, we have always prided ourselves on stocking indy and small press comix that you cannot find anywhere else. It is our goal this year to make a serious push in highlighting the vibrant comix scene that exists here in the northwest. We are asking anyone who makes comix to come down to the store and drop off copies of whatever you happen to be working on t...o become part of our soon to be expanded local section.
We understand how hard it is to not only make comix, but to market them and hopefully make enough back to cover printing costs. All items are on a consignment basis for a period of about 1-2 months with a 50/50 split of the cover price. After the sell cycle is over we then cut you a check for what sold and return unsold copies to you. You can also leave the extra copies with us and will be paid when and if they sell. Check back here and on our Facebook page for future updates and information.

END OF THE YEAR BLOWOUT SALE!!

Were you naughty this year? Did Santa give you the finger and laugh? Well, screw him too. You're an adult and can buy what you wanted for X-Mas yourself, and hey, why not save some money while your at it? From now until January 2nd, all Graphic novels, toys and statues are on sale!! So stop in and show Santa you don't need to take his naughty/nice crap anymore!

.GRAPHIC NOVELS - 30% off (except items on new rack)
TOYS - 25% off
STATUES - 25-50% off

Sales like this don't come around very often, so don't wait until it's too late!

SHAKY KANE'S MONSTER TRUCK TP

(W/A) Shaky Kane

GET YOUR MOTOR ROLLING AND HEAD OUT ALONG COMIC BOOK ROUTE 666!
Taking it's stylistic cues from the silver age of comics, this graphic road movie by comics legend SHAKY KANE, pans out over 50 continuous panels, taking the reader on a hallucinogenic journey into the very hinterland of popular culture. Deluxe, recolored, remastered second printing of the WISHBONE STUDIO cult classic.

Holy crap I'm so excited for this book I can hardly type up a blurb for it. Clearly Santa knew what I really wanted this year! Shaky Kane, the man behind the meta fiction masterpiece, Bulletproof Coffin is back, bringing with him comics that remind us all of what we love about the medium in the first place. It's Silver Age weirdness filtered though the lens of pop culture, refracted though the deranged mind of a man driven crazy by spending too many hours at the drawing table! RECOMMENDED BY CASEY!

CHASE TP

(W) Dan Curtis Johnson (W/A) J.H. Williams III

Collecting a cult favorite series from the 1990s spotlighting the amazing artwork of J.H. Williams III, CHASE stars Agent Cameron Chase. On field assignment for the Department of Extranormal Operations, a government agency with jurisdiction over superhuman activity, she's about to encounter some unexpected surprises, as her own mysterious powers come into play - powers she doesn't fully understand.

This spectacular collection includes appearances by Batman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Martian Manhunter, Teen Titans, the Justice Society of America and more, in stories from CHASE #1-9 and #1,000,000, BATMAN #550, #1-9, DC UNIVERSE SECRET FILES #1, SECRET FILES GUIDE TO THE DC UNIVERSE 2000 #31, SUPERMAN: OUR WORLDS AT WAR SECRET FILES #1, JSA SECRET FILES #2, THE FLASH SECRET FILES #3, THE JOKER: LAST LAUGH SECRET FILES #1, BATGIRL SECRET FILES #1 and HAWKMAN SECRET FILES #1.

Before J.H. Williams made a name for himself with books like Promethea or Batwoman, he created one of the best and most underused female characters in the DCU--Chase. Similar to Gotham Central and Hitman, Chase takes place within DCU proper, but gives us a different perspective on what it's like to be a normal person in a world filled with super muk-muks. Collected in this single volume is every Chase appearance from the 1990's, perfect for any fan of noir, fringe DC stuff or the gorgeous art of Williams himself. RECOMMENDED BY PATRICK!

ZANADU RECOMMENDATIONS FOR 12/14/11

MUSH: SLED DOGS WITH ISSUES

(W) Glenn Eichler (A) Joe Infurnari

Venus wants Buddy to quit asking her to "make puppies." Buddy wants Winston's help wooing Venus. Winston wants Guy's respect. Guy wants Dolly's job. Dolly wants to know the meaning of it all. Nobody knows what Fiddler really wants, not even Fiddler. But mostly, these sled dogs just want to run. Sounds simple? It should be, but even dogs have their problems. From Colbert Report writer Glenn Eichler comes a postmodern tale of heroism on the tundra, epic romance, and yellow snow.

On the surface, dogs have an easy life. Eat, sleep, poo, have someone else clean up after you...pretty cushy all considered. But what if there is more under the surface? An underlying gnawing like that itch on your butt you can never quite reach. Mush aims to broaden our horizons on just what the life of a canine is really like--confusing. RECOMMENDED BY CASEY!
