WHISPERS #3

(W/A) Joshua Luna

Sam has looked into the face of pure evil, and he heard it speak. The problem is - the voice won't go away. Desperate to rid his mind of it, Sam devises a morally questionable plan. He may save his sanity, but will he lose his soul in the process?

I love this comic. My only problem with it is that it takes so long to come out. Someone should tell Mr. Luna that cliffhangers only work if people can remember what the hell happened previously. Other than that it is well written, conceived, paced, drawn, and it's also kinda spooky. recommended by erin.

GET JIRO HC

(W) Anthony Bourdain & Joel Rose  (A) Langdon Foss

Don't miss this original graphic novel from Anthony Bourdain, renowned chef, New York Times bestselling author (Kitchen Confidential, Medium Raw) and star of the Emmy-winning hit travel show No Reservations and the brand new series The Layover! Co-written with Joel Rose (LA PACIFICA, Kill Kill Faster Faster) this stylized send-up of food culture and society features spectacular detailed and dynamic art by Langdon Foss. In a not-too-distant future of food obsessed L.A., where master chefs rule the town like crime lords and people literally kill for a seat at the best restaurant, Jiro, a renegade and ruthless sushi chef arrives in town with strong ideas of his own. It's a bloody culinary war of epic proportions, and in the end, no chef may be left alive!

Forget the Yakuza, the Mob and the Triads, there's a new organization in town...the CHEFS! From culinary master, Anothony Bourdain, comes a graphic novel about one of the building blocks of life and the lengths people are willing to go to try the best of the best. A unique and inventive look on what Iron Chef could end up as, this intricately detailed comic by newcomer, Langdon Foss, whose work reminds me of the late Seth Fisher, is sure to please the taste buds of even the most jaded food fanatic!! Plus, there's samurai sushi chefs... seriously, how bad ass is that? RECOMMENDED BY PERRY!

MORT MESKIN: OUT OF THE SHADOWS TP

(W/A) Mort Meskin

Out of the Shadows collects the very best of legendary Golden Age comics artist Mort Meskin's stories from the '30s, '40s, and '50s and features work in every genre Meskin worked in: super-hero, adventure, kid gangs, romance, crime, westerns, science fiction, and horror. Meskin set a new a high bar for comics in the first three decades of the medium, and this book will be a revelation to both the casual graphic novel reader and the ardent fan.

Until about five months ago, I had never even heard the name Mort Meskin. Then I started going through our art books section and decided to pop open a copy of "From Shadow to Light", a Meskin art book put out by Fantagraphics in 2010, and all I could think was "How in the hell did I miss this guy?" Granted, I'm not as up on my golden age comic knowledge as I should be, but damn! how in the hell did I miss this guy? recommended by erin.
