WONDER WOMAN #37

NEW INDY COMIX FROM KATE LACOUR!!

I found David Cronenberg's illegitimate baby. OK, well, she found us, and maybe she's not Cronenberg's kid, but Kate Lacour sure could have fooled me with her body horror beauty comics straight outta New Orleans. Right from the cover, you can tell that something unsettling, something best left hidden lay behind it, but you can't stop yourself from picking it up and delving into the beautifully illustrated pages of loss, regret, fear and a hundred million other emotions we try not to think about on a daily basis. Truly original and moving, these are some the nicest looking self published books I've ever seen come through the door and you won't find them anywhere other than ZANADU COMICS!!

And if you aren't local, you can also get these and many many other small press comics through our online store!

MILK-TEETH

(W/A) Kate Lacour

What does the fairy do with my old teeth? Are mermaids warm or cold-blooded? How do seraphim reproduce? What does a unicorn want with a virgin in the first place?

Milk-teeth responds to the questions that gnawed away your ability to believe in anything with (mostly) wordless vignettes and technical diagrams. Milk-teeth has garnered praise as the first comic in history to address magical animals without sarcasm or preciousness. The art is lush yet distant and restrained, and is beautifully reproduced in full color.

DITKO'S SHORTS HC

(W) Various (A) Steve Ditko

Ditko's Shorts is a fun and incredibly fascinating compilation of short comics one, two, and three pages in length. Only a brilliant master could tell a dramatic, compelling tale in such compact form. You'll thrill as Ditko walks this exciting high-wire act without a net! The genres show the artist's great range. There's horror, fantasy, science fiction, western, and even humorous stories. Taken from rare comic books from a who's who of publishers, all the comics are meticulously restored and printed in a beautiful, large-format book. Insightful introductions by punk rocker and comics historian Fester Faceplant and Eisner Award-winner Craig Yoe.

BATGIRL #37

(W) Cameron Stewart, Brendan Fletcher (A) Babs Tarr

The Batgirl of Burnside is the name on everyone's lips...but she sure is acting strange since she took up residence in Gotham City's outer borough! Dangerous joyrides? Photo ops? Sequins? Either Barbara Gordon's gone off the deep end - or there's a doppelganger under that cowl!

Eat your heart our, Dazzler, there's a new glam rock super girl in town!! The new creative team of Tarr, Stewart and Fletcher continue their genre flipping run of murderous cosplaying twins, creepy data hackers and even the inevitable CLONE villain!! This is the perfect book for those who have been turned off by the dark grittiness of the New 52 and just want something fun and poppy like good, sugar filled bubblegum for your mind!!

ALL-NEW COMICS SHOULD SMELL GOOD! NOW!! ep #6 12/3

Casey and Morgan were having a bit too much fun with the infinity gauntlet this week and accidentally used the time gem to transport themselves into the far future where earth has been transformed into a sprawling cyber dungeon ruled by humanoid techo-crabs in giant fluorescent shells, leaving Video Monkey on his own to survive without his keepers to feed him! (the horror!!)

Thankfully, after some rip hunter, time master sh*t, Morgan and Casey were able to make it back to the present, but a day too late to get the video up on time. Now, we know that your week is ruined, but just pretend this went up yesterday and go on with you puny little lives.

(And be on the lookout next week for the (hopeful) return of Professor Marvel whom we traded to the Holy Wench of the Hermaphracrabs in order to escape.)

ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK #1

(W) Christopher Sebela (A) Diego Barreto

WHY WE LOVE IT: We can't get enough John Carpenter! It means so much to us to have brought BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA to comics the right way. The response has been so strong that we knew we had to bring another Carpenter classic to comics in a style and approach that does ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK justice.
WHY YOU'LL LOVE IT: If you already love the ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK film, this is a noBut if ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK is new to you, writer Christopher Sebela has been garnering high praise for his recent BOOM! Studios original DEAD LETTERS, as well as for his Eisner Awardoriginal, HIGH CRIMES.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT: The crime rate in the United States has risen 400 percent. After humiliating the President in front of the world and destroying America's one chance to end World War III, Snake Plissken has become America's Most Wanted man in a land of criminals and the insane. Everyone wants Snake dead. Luckily, Snake knows the feeling all too well. War hero. Outlaw. Renegade. Snake's back!

Hot off the success of the new "Big Trouble in Little China" comic, Boom! has decided to deliver a two-fisted punch of Kurt Russell bad-assness with the return of SNAKE PLISSKEN!! Honestly, there is nothing more to be said other than, "Call me Snake."
