The son of Laufey, King of the frost giants of Jotunheim, one of the Nine Worlds of Asgardian cosmology, Loki, being born of "diminutive" size in comparison to his kin, was discovered by Odin during a bloody war between the Asgardians and the frost giants. Because Loki was the son of a king fallen in battle, Odin elected to raise him alongside is own son Thor. Throughout childhood, Loki greatly resented the fact that Odin and the Asgardians favored young Thor, who already envinced a nobility of spirit and excelled in all endeavors. Vowing to become the most powerful god in all of Asgard, Loki began studying the mystic arts, for which he possessed a natural affinity. All the while, his hatred for Thor festered and developed into a determination to destroy is adoptive brother. A hatred and determination that still burns within him to this very day. 9" tall.
