THE SURFACE #1

(W) Ales Kot (A) Langdon Foss, Jordie Bellaire

What would happen if Moebius and District 9 had a baby? Maybe THE SURFACE!

Welcome to Africa. Ebola is no longer a problem. The West and the East are moving in-and three hacker lovers are searching Tanzania for the place that can change everything: THE SURFACE!

The first issue of a mind-bending action SF epic drawn by the esteemed LANGDON FOSS (Get Jiro!, Winter Soldier) and colored by the Eisner-winning JORDIE BELLAIRE (everything)! THE SURFACE!

I've noticed that in almost every solicit for a new book from pretty much any publisher, the book is described as BLANK meets BLANK with a BLANK twist or some other sort of dribble. And while yes, this book's solicit does start with that, I trust in something bigger than hype solicits, I trust in Ales Kot. This guy has been coming up with the craziest, multi-layered, meta heavy mind f*ck comics on the racks today and THE SURFACE looks to be another trip! Kot also has a great knack for collaborating with artists that really enhance the mood and metaphors of the book which brings us to Langdon Foss. Seriously, this guy draws every grain of rice in a piece of sushi. Damn. Plus y'know colors by Jordie Bellaire because if you can get her, why get anyone else?

NEW LOCAL COMICS!!

We've just added two new comics to our local section from up and coming Seattle comic artist, Kiriska! In her own words, "I draw pictures and write stories." What more do you need to know? Check out her website for more stuffs!

SUNFLOWERS AND RAINBOWS

(W/A) Kiriska

24hr Comic Day (October) 2009. 24-page BW oneshot.

Following the previous year’s adaptation, I definitely wanted to do something original for 2009′s 24hr Comic Day. This is what came out of my head at the last minute and I’m really happy with how it turned out, given all the restraints of the event. Aside from the cover (really just page 15) which was colored at a later date, only minor clean-up edits were made to the pages after the initial 24 hours.

THE LAST CRANE

(W/A) Kiriska

January 2011. 8-page, BW toned oneshot.

This was my submission to the 2011 SCAD Sequential Arts Anthology, and I am pleased to report that it was accepted.

HALOGEN #1

(W) Josh Tierney (A) Afu Chan

WHY WE LOVE IT: We've published four books thus far in Josh Tierney's Spera series because we simply love his characters and storytelling. Now, he teams up with fellow webcomic creators Afu Chan (Spera) and Giannis Milonogiannis (Old City Blues, Prophet) for a new creator-owned, sci-fi adventure.

WHY YOU'LL LOVE IT: Having first collaborated on the Eisner Award-nominated Spera series, the creative team behind HaloGen is no stranger to kickbutt ladies, epic world-building, and sweeping adventures. This time they're strapping on their sci-fi boots for a series perfect for fans of Prophet, Rocket Girl, and The Fifth Element.

WHAT IT'S ABOUT: There's a rumor on Cityship Q that the gigantic body of a dead god was found floating in space. Rell, an agent woking for the HaloGen organization, is tasked with finding the location of the god and retrieving it by any means necessary. Using her ability to form hyperrealistic holograms, Rell is about to take on the first mission she might not be able to finish.

Now that Prophet is in its final cycle, a new series must rise to fill the giant dead robot god shaped void left by the best sci-fi comic on the racks--and that series is HALOGEN!! Crafted from the kinetically charged, indy powerhouse creators behind Spera and Old City Blues comes a super-charged, 1997 Square RPG feelin' rollicking space adventure for the next century!

BLACKCROSS #1

(W) Warren Ellis (A) Colton Worley

All small towns have secrets. All small towns have ghosts. Blackcross, in the Pacific North West of America, has more secrets than most. And it is being haunted by something impossible. BLACKCROSS, a supernatural extension of the PROJECT SUPERPOWERS mythos, is a ghost story about something reaching out from the other side of the night, through the forest and mist of this remote town, to grasp at the hearts of a handful of people who may not find out that they're the targets of a strange killer until it's much, much too late.
