Now they’re competing for the last bout of the season -- and it’sgoing to be the fight of their lives.

A one-shot by Danny Djeljosevic and Diana Naneva, FINAL DERBY is a manga-style underdog fight comic, like The Running Man on roller skates. She kicks a lot of dudes.

These special “Omega powers” have been gathered by the mysterious Mr. O in order to liberate reality from those who police it, who include a psychedelic artist, a corporate playwright, a cult leader, and a sellout musician. Or so they’re told. Imagine if David Cronenberg, David Lynch, and probably Michelangelo's David made a 1980s superhero team comic, and you’ll get an idea of what’s in this special mini bootleg preview edition, which features the first ten pages of OMEGA BOYS #1, plus a special Kidz Klub ad and a visual guide to every character in the series (and beyond)

WHY WE LOVE IT: We've all spent hours glued to episodes of shows like True Detective
and House of Cards that explore deeply flawed and morally complex characters. In
BUTTERFLY, screenwriter Arash Amel (Grace of Monaco, Erased) brings that aesthetic
to comics and the espionage genre, exploring the true nature of people who devote their
lives to covert ops and the deceit, solitude, and violence that comes with it.

WHY YOU'LL LOVE IT: Marguerite Bennett has been making a name for herself with her
work on Lois Lane, Batgirl, and Earth 2: World's End and we can't wait for fans to see
how she explores the dark world of spycraft. There's no one better in the espionage genre
than Antonio Fuso, the artist behind the critically acclaimed run of GI Joe: Cobra. It's the
perfect creative team for a morally complex story of violence and family set in the web of a
global conspiracy.

SIRENS #1

(W/A) George Perez

WHY WE LOVE IT: The name George Pérez should say it all, but we are beyond excited to work with one of comics’ living masters on his own original title. He’s worked on great female characters like Wonder Woman and Scarlet Witch, but this, a team of female heroes
of his own creation, had us swooning.
WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT: It’s a scifi adventure story that spans time and space, featuring a team of female heroes that kick butt across the universe. If you like strong female scifi characters like Battlestar Galactica’s Starbuck, Star Wars’ Princess Leia, and Alien’s
Ripley, you’ll find a lot to love about GEORGE PÉREZ’S SIRENS!
WHAT IT’S ABOUT: As an intergalactic force enslaves planets across the galaxy, the legendary team known only as the Sirens must reunite to save the galaxy-but is that even possible when the Sirens themselves don’t even remember who they are? And the rest of the universe only remembers them as…villains? A six issue miniseries featuring your new favorite comic book team, written and drawn by the master himself, George Pérez (Wonder Woman, JLA Vs. Avengers) begins his greatest story yet.

NEW LOCAL GRAPHIC NOVEL

I KNOW WHAT I AM TP VOL 01
(W/A) Gina Sciciliano

Against the backdrop of a repressive and violent 17th century Rome, I Know What I Am tells the incredible story of female painter Artemisia Gentileschi. In a world where the Catholic Church controls the government, restricts free expression, and suppresses women’s power, Artemisia fights to overcome the odds and create covertly political work that challenges the culture’s acceptance of sexual violence and its restrictive view of women.

Cover art by Gina Siciliano

Cover art by Gina Siciliano

Gina Siciliano brings us the first fruit of her magnum opus exploring the art, politics and society of 17th century Italy in this heavily researched biography of one of the few female artists of the Baroque period.

I Know What I Am is a story populated with martyrs, philosophers, lecherous church officials, high-profile artists, and murderers. The gripping story extends from ignored female figures of Biblical times to the sordid lives of Baroque masters. It serves as both a sweeping history of a time period few people today understand and an extraordinary woman that subverted the society she was born into to become a ground-breaking artist

Using solely ballpoint pens, Siciliano creates a striking and unique work that interprets Renaissance and Baroque style through an entirely new lens. Bridging the modern “low” art form of comics with the traditionally “high” art form of painting, Siciliano comments on our forgotten past, the ways we define progress, and the history of women in art as a whole.

Includes 6 pages of notes and references to support the scholarly aspect of this ground-breaking work.

WRENCHIES GN

(W/A) Farel Dalrymple

Meet the Wrenchies. They're strong, powerful, and if you cross them, things will quickly go very badly for you. Only one thing scares them-growing up. Anyone who survives to be an adult lives in constant fear of the Shadowsmen. All the teenagers who come into contact with them turn into twisted, nightmarish monsters whose minds are lost forever.

It was a tough choice this week with both Prophet: Strikefile and this coming out, but I gotta go with the genius that is Mr. Dalrymple. A prophet veteran himself, Farel is one of the most unique, odd, talented and down right brilliant creators working in comics today and Wrenchies is 300 pages worth of proof for anyone who doubts this hyperbole. Soft spoken and unassuming, Farel has the spirit of a true comix barbarian with the mind of a space-ghetto born Miyazaki who crafts stories that have reduced me to tears in just a few pages. Do yourself a favor and splurge on what will surely be one of the best graphic novels to come out in 2014!!
