UNDERWATER #3

(W) Steve Orlando (A) Artyom Takhanov

Surrounded by bloodthirsty humans, boiling in their landsuits as the sun rises, Redum Anshargal and Ukinnu Alal's team comes face to face with a primordial god. He's never killed a god before, but that doesn't mean Anshargal isn't up for trying.
The dry frontier takes another life as the pulp monster adventure continues!

If you're looking for big action, underwater pulp adventure, look no further than Image's monsteriffic title by Steve Orlando and highly talented newcomer, Artyom Trakhanov! This man can draw some damn fine underwater scenes (that actually look like they are underwater) and may even give master monster designer Guy Davis a run for his money someday. Seriously, this is what Aquaman would look like if DC was willing to break out of the mold once in a while.

BACK ISSUE OF THE DAY!!

SPIDER-MAN: LIFELINE #1-3 ($2.99 ea)

(W) Fabian Nicieza (A) Steve Rude

This three-issue limited series from writer “Fabulous” Fabian Nicieza (Gambit) and artist Steve “The Dude” Rude (Nexus) focuses on the recently recovered fragments of the Lifeline Tablet, an ancient artifact that holds the key to the lost languages and medicinal practices of pre-Sumerian civilizations. It may also be a source of rebirth and unmitigated power…which makes the acquisition of the pieces a pretty popular idea with the New York underworld and Dr. Curt Connors, the long-suffering scientist who turns into the Lizard, one of Spider-Man’s oldest and deadliest foes. This is a solid Silver Age-style tale starring Marvel’s wondrous web-slinger, and it’s given a cool, retro feel with Rude’s gorgeous artwork, which truly captures the spirit of the Ditko and Romita years on The Amazing Spider-Man (Vol. 1).

COMICS SHOULD SMELL GOOD!! ep. #78!

Welcome to another long winded rambling session from Casey and well thought out recommendations from everyone else on this gloriously rainy spring day here in Seattle! Seriously, you'd think we'd have found someone better to helm this sinking ship by now... Anyway, in addition to Anna and Professor Will, we duped local creator Arthur Wyatt, writer of the highly successful Dredd: Underbelly Movie sequel to stop by and give you a few terse words about the law and the joys of future swearing! Oh, and for some reason there is a lot of pink in this episode and a bunny that poops jelly beans...yeah, we may be running out of ideas here...

From the our rival state in sports and marijuana comes a comic of EPIC proportions by the highly talented Matthew Allison who is sure to be a household name as soon as this thing makes its way round the interwebs and such. I'm not even going to tell you what it is about, I'm just going to show you a picture of the man himself and call it nuff said.

See what making comics does to your life?

Matthew is also joined by local artist Damon Gentry and Aaron Conley (not so local), the amazing creators of SABERTOOTH SWORDSMAN for a few pages of seriously bizarre nonsense.

NEW INDY COMIX!!

We've got a helping heap o' new weirdness from the desolate, far off lands of South Dakota courtesy of cartoonist Marc Wagner!! His previous zines, Subconscious Thoughts We Almost Lost Forever  and New Colors of Eyes and Leaves were great little pieces of insight into a strange young man's psyche and it looks like this time the scope plunges even deeper into the offbeat oddities of molecular science, celebrities, Dracula and most importantly--CATS!! (yes we love cat books here at Zanadu)

SEEING STARS #1

(W/A) Marc Wagner

T.V., music, movies, comedy-- no celebrity is safe from Mr. Wagner

DRACULA GRASP (NEW COLORS OF EYES & LEAVES #8)

(W/A) Marc Wagner

A body of work exploring forms found in molecular biology. That's right--SCIENCE!!

CAVITIES & THE APOCALYPSE

(W/A) Marc Wagner

...yeah I got nothin' on this one. Well, other than the fact that Batman is in it and it looks trippy as sh*t.

MOSTLY CATS & MONSTERS

(W/A) Marc Wagner

Filled with...yep, you guessed it--cats and monsters!

STRAY BULLETS: THE KILLERS #2

(W/A) David Lapham

When her niece, missing for almost a year, shows up on her doorstep with a horrifying secret, Carol Hogarth will find out that people can be poison...especially if that person is named Virginia Applejack. Find out what best friends, worst enemies, an artificial leg, and a bottle of rum all have to do with 'THE KILLER WHO AWOKE BEFORE DAWN.'

I'm talking about this because for some unknown reason people are not buying this absolutely amazing comic that by all accounts shouldn't even exist!! Stray Bullets was one of those series that ended very abruptly and left me, along with countless other readers, wondering for 8 long long long years if we would ever know the fate of these doomed, but lovable characters Lapham had injected into our brains, but FINALLY do we not only have the finale of the first series, but we have NEW Stray Bullets as well!! This is by far one of the best comics I have ever read, not to mention one of the greatest crime epics to ever be told in any medium. You are doing yourself a serious disservice if you pass on this black and white, gritty neo-noir masterpiece!!!

TRANSLUCID #1

(W) Claudio Sanchez (A) Daniel Bayliss

WHY WE LOVE IT: Claudio Sanchez and Chondra Echert have given us such BOOM! Studios favorites as KILL AUDIO, THE AMORY WARS and KEY OF Z. Their latest book takes the superhero trope of 'the never-ending battle' and turns it into something you've never seen before. WHY YOU'LL LOVE IT: TRANSLUCID is the superhero story you want but never thought you'd see. A story of childhood hope and loss as much as it is about the meaning of heroism, and what defines a hero and a villain. WHAT IT'S ABOUT: The Horse has been the archenemy of The Navigator for years. But The Horse feels The Navigator's moral compass has been slipping, and even a villain can't let that happen. The Horse decides to get a closer look into The Navigator's past that he's buried deep in his subconsciousness and find out what drives a person to make the right choice, and what propels someone to make the selfish one. Thus begins an exploration of why a young man would take the mantle of a superhero.
